Ghaziabad, Sep 3 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted a one-week training course for officers from 13 Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) member countries on conducting probes into economic offences, an official said on Thursday.
Addressing the participants on Wednesday, CBI Additional Director N. Venu Gopal highlighted that investigations into economic offences normally have an impact beyond geographical boundaries, the official said in a statement.
Venu Gopal also interacted with the participants and discussed issues related to best practices which are necessary for investigation and prosecution of cases linked to economic offences.
The course was conducted from August 27 to September 2 at the CBI Academy in Ghaziabad, the statement said.
The training was organised through the ITEC programme of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.
The one-week programme delivered extensive training on the investigation of economic offences to the officers of ITEC member countries, said the statement.
The course was aimed at enhancing awareness, knowledge and practical skills, challenges, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and best practices which are necessary for investigation and prosecution of cases related to economic offences, said the statement.
A total of 30 participants from 13 ITEC member countries, including Bhutan, Fiji, Kingdom of Eswatini (Formerly Swaziland), Lebanon, Lesotho, Liberia, Maldives, Mauritius, Mexico, Oman, Tanzania, Thailand and Zambia, participated in the course.
The Valediction ceremony was held at the CBI Headquarters, New Delhi, on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.
CBI Additional Director N. Venu Gopal presided over the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, he highlighted the significance of investigations related to economic offences, their varied forms and their impact beyond geographical boundaries.
The Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) programme, administered by India’s Ministry of External Affairs, actually covers a massive network of 161 partner countries across Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe, Latin America, the Caribbean, and the Pacific.
The ITEC programme was instituted by a decision of the Indian Cabinet on September 15, 1964, as a bilateral programme of assistance of the Government of India.
